Winterhalter, Franz Xaver (1806-73) was a painter who was born in Black Forest, Germany. Winterhalter became the court painter in Karlsruhe in 1828. He traveled all around between 1850′s-1870′s stopping at spots as Paris, and London. Winterhalter is known for his famous portraits of European royalty, including the Empress Eugenie and Queen Victoria. He painted them with full skirted, and off the shoulder gowns. Such details like this in the dresses were often tied with his name.
