Behind the Seams with Lanvin, Jeanne

Lanvin, Jeanne– 1867-1946 was a Designer who was born in Brittany, France. Lanvin trained as a dressmaker and then as a milliner. In 1890 she opened a millinery shop in Paris. During the early years of the 20th century she made clothes for her family members. She became increasingly popular and young women began demanding her clothes. Right before WW I she created her famous ‘robes de style’, based on 18th century designs.  She also designed romantic picture dresses based on Victorian shapes that were lavishly trimmed with embroidery.  In 1997 Claude Montana began designing for the house of Lanvin.
