Behind the Trend… The Medici Collar

The Medici collar is a collar used on gowns worn specifically by women Medici family members.  The Medici family were rulers of Florence in the 15th Century. The collar was made of stiffened lace, so it would be raised across the shoulders away from the neck. This look was also popular during the late 19th century ball gowns.
