Art and Culture…art review for “Art in the Streets”

Art in the Streets, opened this weekend, April 17, 2011 (on view until August 8, 2011) at MOCA, Los Angeles.  It is “the first major U.S. museum survey of graffiti and street art”.

What are your thoughts? Does Street Art lose its ‘shock-value’ when you move it from the streets to a gallery?  Is graffiti now “an icon requiring our submission” when placed within museum walls?  Although its influence has been seen in fashion and art, how does an exhibition like this change an art medium that has for so long been disregarded by the art history world?

How to…support the Arts in CA

Since introducing Art Plates in 1994, CA is halfway to its goal of rasing $40 million dollars for the arts!  The fees for the Art Plate is considered a “charitable {donation}” and “over 60 % of the California Arts Council’s budget comes from the Arts Plate.”  If you are a Californian, do your part and help bring CA back to the top for funding the arts!
