Behind the Trend…YSL and women’s trouser suits

For those women who love a good ‘trouser’ suit, as they were called, Saint Laurent should be your favorite designer.  He responded well to the trend creating themed suits for women including his “African”, “Safari”, and “City” suits.  Now, you may be saying, “But I thought women wore pants long before the 70s?” and you would be correct but they were only acceptable in certain settings, for sport, loungewear, and “as an expression of iconoclasm by celebrities like Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, and Katharine Hepburn,” but never were trouser suits “acceptable townwear for a fashionable woman”.  We should all be thankful for designers like YSL.
